UFC president Dana White wasn’t shocked by the incident

McGregor was brought on the court during the half-time interval, during which he punched the Heat’s Mascot – ‘Burnie’ – in a pre-planned routine to advertise his pain relief spray.

But ‘Burnie’ ended up being sent to the local hospital, although he was sent home after being looked over and given some painkillers.

UFC head honcho White wasn’t surprised by the news, asking: “What’s up with mascots wanting to get punched in the face by professional fighters?

“What do you expect? What are those mascot things made out of?

“Unless you’re like the [Las Vegas] Golden Knights mascot – I’m assuming it’s a metal helmet.

“I wouldn’t have professional fighters punch me in the face if I was a mascot.

“It doesn’t seem like the brightest thing in the world.”

Former two-division champion McGregor, 34, has yet to comment on the mascot’s hospital dash.

The UFC’s poster boy is currently gearing up to make his long-awaited octagon return later this year.

McGregor will be welcomed back to the cage by fellow fan favourite Michael Chandler, although the date for their eagerly-anticipated showdown has not yet been revealed.

But the Irishman has claimed the fight will be officially announced before this season of Ultimate Fighter draws to a close.

He said late last month: “The fight’s signed now. It’ll be announced during The Ultimate Fighter.

“So, The Ultimate Fighter is airing in a few days on ESPN.

“By the time that show finishes, we’ll have a date and everything set for the fans.”
